“The Secret” movie delusion

When I watched The Secret for the very first time, I couldn’t believe the things people do for money and how people in general would give up their ability to reason and simply accept every fantastic claim that comes along next, especially if it’s supported by some celebrity like Oprah. Maybe the ultimate goal of the authors of “The Secret” is to help people, because they probably believe in it as well. Either way, this is so easily done because most people already have the basic program running in the background of their mental processor. This program is an infectious virus called Program Religion and Spirituality. It is a program that has caused mental delusions and illnesses for a lot of people since it was downloaded in the past by their creators through another program, called Program Brainwash.

The idea that “The Secret” is using is nothing new and in fact, it’s no secret at all. It is quite similar how religions were created in the past for a rather similar purpose as well. But that’s another whole story. I’ll cover that in another article. Personally, I don’t believe in the concepts of “The Secret” simply because it’s nothing but a business mind game that will surely make big bucks really fast for the authors, immaterial what the real motives were. Actually, anyone can create this. All you need is a creative mystical idea that almost coincides with current belief systems, some good stories; blend it with a little psychology and positive thinking, fire up people’s minds with promises of hope, dreams and miracles, and presto! You got yourself a new faith-based and emotion-driven thinking belief system with automated money making recruiting program!

“The Secret” plays around with desperate and naïve minds, which we have a lot of these on this planet. It understands the fact that every human being has some kind of problem or important needs in their lives. This is all that’s needed to influence people in buying the concept that not only promises, but also guarantees its effectiveness. Like religion, “The Secret” is the new best selling opium in the market today. The authors talk about the “laws of attraction” as if they really know everything about it, and that they have proven it really exists. They don’t really offer real evidence that such things really work or how such things really work because they don’t really have to. Since many already have the mental program of the infectious virus planted in their brains by their parents from early childhood, the authors need not have to prove their claims. They might or might not already know that believers will automatically understand what they’re talking about. The point being, everyone will assume that it really works from the illusion and fantasy it provides.

They also give some twisted scientific comparisons of the “The Secret” to electricity, which is of course is another pseudoscience manipulation. They fail to realize that electricity has been proven by genuine science of its existence and how it works! A person who is well informed on how real science works would definitely not represent “The Secret” unless they wish to show the world on how shallow and poorly informed they are in science education. When I see the authors present “The Secret” in the video, I either see some poor deluded individuals who need psychological help, or some selfish individuals who prey upon believers in order to make more money. What they say is all personal and deluded opinions which have no truth at all. Well, at least not in the sense on how they say it works. The authors further to say that the “law of attraction” is really obedient. All you have to do is, just think about something you really, really want, and in time, you’ll definitely get it! What’s the secret in that?

Logically, when someone thinks about something that they really want in life, the mind starts mapping out the work needed to achieve it whether the individual realizes this or not. You’re not going to get it by just wanting something and then not doing anything about it. For example, a homeless amputee guy with no job, no family, no friends, no happiness, no nothing, suffering from some sickness along with all the other burdens in his life may extremely want everything opposite of what he is going through in his life. He then finds “The Secret” in the trash which someone else threw it away when they finally wised up and realized it is indeed nothing but garbage. He then reads about “The Secret” and his minds starts mapping out the path to achieve his dreams. He starts off working extra time begging for money to buy lottery tickets with it. He works really hard begging for more money to buy more lottery tickets while secretly having delusions that “The Secret” is in force, guiding him and putting him at the right place and at the right time. Now, if he wins a lottery, he becomes the next person to give a testimonial that “The Secret” really works! He might even tell you that he got a brand new artificial leg because that’s another thing that he always wished he could have. It’s a Miracle!

But was it “The Secret” really at work? Or was it the fact that people just need something stimulating in their belief system in order to get motivated? Other homeless people who this successful homeless guy shared “The Secret” with weren’t so lucky to attain the power of The Force. They didn’t win a lottery even though they too followed the ways of “The Secret”. Okay, maybe some robbed the bank or kidnapped the President of the United States for ransom, but let’s not go there, and just stay within the normal circumstances instead. What the authors and the homeless guy who won the lottery and got himself a new artificial leg will tell other homeless people is, “You’re probably not doing it right. You got to do it this way or you got to do it that way. You faith or focus is not strong enough.”

Lame excuses and creative advice coated with beautiful expressions will be continuously given until the day the other homeless people get what they want. When they finally get what they want, they say, “Hey! ‘The Secret’ really works!” Those who never got what they want are not spoken of and get swept under the rug and forgotten. Probably, they’re not doing it right as well or perhaps they should join those bank robbers or President Kidnappers who also share the enthusiasm that “The Secret” really works! Well, some of them ended up in jail because they were constantly in fear and were spending too much thought time of getting caught. Thus, “The Secret” took them to jail! So the secret to “The Secret” is, always having happy thoughts and you’ll get happy results. Some kidnappers and bank robbers are never caught till the day they die, and they live a good and happy life somewhere on this planet because they always focused on happy thoughts, all thanks to “The Secret”. The concept of “The Secret” is one of the best ways to get yourself to go permanently insane in the shortest period of time. I hope and wish people will eventually evolve out of such delusion and nonsense, also offered in religion and spirituality! Come out of that insanity, accept the real world, discover the facts, experience reality as it is and embrace change and progress with open arms. And now, here’s “The Secret”, The Chasers Style!

Here’s a little behind the scenes of “The Secret”. You’ll see another side of personalities of the same people from in front of the scene. I find these a little dark and disturbing. It makes me think that they are laughing in power and in control over deluded believers who they’re making money from. Maybe, just maybe, I’m wrong about them but that was the first impression I got when I watched this video: YouTube Preview Image

Amen… the Emperor IS NAKED:

The Secret is the latest and by far the worst example of a HIGHLY profitable trend where self-help gurus with fabricated new age titles and little relevant education, credentials or legitimate expertise brainwash us into believing that they know what is best for us, our marriages and our families.

Often their only contribution to society is introducing some exotic sounding, new age philosophy. However, they often cleverly form an incestuous group of like-minded “experts” who cross-promote each other by swearing their success is due to following the beliefs of another member of their “cult!” All the while, they ply the airwaves jockeying for an ever-larger audience by appearing in the national media to garner third-party endorsements.

The Self-Help Movement has become the Self-Destruct Movement by diminishing or destroying our critical thinking skills to choose and evolve on our own. We have given up the freedom to build healthy lives, marriages and families based on our unique history and life experience. Instead many victims, blinded to the value of their own life experiences, are attracted to the latest secret in self-help, in an attempt to find out what they should think, feel and how they should act… this is the definition of a cult.

The solution is a return to our (common) senses! The best way out of this learned “self-helplessness” is to go cold turkey. Stop following ALL self-help gurus now. Begin, instead, to reclaim your natural, God-given ability to think for yourself. The common sense that was once readily available to all of us is still there free of charge and waiting to be applied to just about any challenge we might face in life… all you have to do is use it.

Please, let’s all work together to stop the flock of “sheepeople” who blindly move from one UNPROVEN concept to the next, looking for the answers to life’s challenges that you already possess and that is the OBVIOUS!

Thanks John and yes, you’re right. I agree. But when you say, “God-given ability to think for yourself.”, as much as it is hard for me to accept the Deistic view about God, I hope you’re just having the Deistic view about it rather than a Theistic view, because if you were, then you may need the same advise you are giving to others…

Bottom line, regardless of religious belief system, if any, we’re born with the tools we need to live healthy lives. We all just need to learn more about “how to think” not “what to think!”

Well, that’s a start… ;-)

you are the *exact* opposite of critical thinkers….you accept empirical reality 100%

Not sure what accept empirical reality means… all I am suggesting is that we become more informed consumers.

Honestly, I’ve had “psychic” experience, seeing things that happened but I was not there, seeing things that happen later. Knowing things about people and situations that have not come from any physical source. I’ve had experience with “energy healing” and guides, successful experience. When I can do it all the time… at will… another story…
I Read the secret in equal amazement and horror, watched the DVD with disgust. Not only are so many of the claims irresponsible, irrelevant and contradictory but… actually that is enough. Read with any amount of critical thinking it fails as “self help” or literature. As “spiritual” advice, it is pure sabotage.
Even assuming it is true as presented, it never mentions any level of self awareness or responsibility, which have seemed to me key in changing unfortunate circumstances.
I am sorry to see it so promoted by those who, now that I think about it, are full of bad advice on many issues.
The secret, that isn’t a secret (she says both) is, if you buy into this, they will all make money. It does demonstrate how easy it is to think very highly of ones self, for no particular reason and how many are looking for someone to think highly of… for no particular reason.
Personally, I keep “praying” for reason.
