Hi Pete,

It wouldn’t excuse a Bernie Madoff if he were a philanthropist and good works don’t excuse Oprah.

Actually it does, at least partially. That's why I made a point in saying in the article Oprah was not malicious. Madoff was. That's a big difference.

I think to some degree this is not Oprah's fault. A lot of the time there will be pressure from the producers to have these people on the show and she has to conform if she likes it or not. A friend of mine has a radio show and due to producer pressure has to have a psychic on it sometimes. Now he is a magician like myself and knows this is bull, yet he has to do what they tell him. Admitadly this is not the same as Oprah, because what would they do if she refused? Fire her? I think not. However it will have some level of influence

Oprah is causing harm with her persistent, gushing enthusiasm for health quackery.

The big picture has nothing to do with it. It wouldn't excuse a Bernie Madoff if he were a philanthropist and good works don't excuse Oprah.

She is smart enough to know better, but too ignorant to use her brain on this subject. Unfortunately, she is the queen of her empire, and no one in her court dares set her straight. Expect more woo-woo from Oprah.

Good point! I've wondered also if there are producers and others around her that could have/may have, tried to provide better judgment about some of the topics, people and products she endorses. It's really not just about her poor critical thinking skills---she has business savvy I presume, but rather it is about the production of her show and enterprise, and that involves a lot of other people.
