I'm happy to hear that the worst is over and wish her a speedy rehab. Take your time. Like I said, we will still be here when you get back.

Thanks, everyone, for all the kind words, good thoughts and concern. It really means a lot.

There doesn't appear to be any long-term damage, but we've gotta visit the specialist docs in a couple weeks to see if this was caused by a chronic problem, or just a bad combination of events. If it's the former, we fix with time, surgery or drugs. If the latter, we know how to prevent this from happening.

Things are better now. We're back from the hospital. Apart from some physical rehab (try laying down sick with no food for almost two weeks straight, and see how you feel!), we should get back to normal soon.

No article this weekend. Give me one more week off, please, and DBSkeptic will be back soon!

Andy, I'm sure you got my email, even if you haven't been able to read it yet. But just wanted to let you know that I'm still thinking of you and your family and wish you all the best. These kind of situations make me wish I believed in the power of prayer :(

Sorry to hear about your family crisis. My best wishes to you and your family too - I hope everything turns out well, and your daughter recovers fully and quickly. Thankfully she does have the benefit of modern medicine, and sensible parents who know to rely on the real stuff, and not the superstition and quackery that is inflicted on many less fortunate children when illness strikes.

Thanks, everyone.

The problem we're dealing with is kidney failure. As of now, she's stabilized (the kidneys are working again), and is probably going to make a recovery, though we're not out of this yet. I'll post again when I have something more definite.

I'd rather not post full details, but for those concerned, please send me an email (skeptic@dbskeptic.com), and I'll email you back with what's happening.

I will say this, though: Many many thanks to the brilliant, inspiring staff at the Helen DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA. They are experts in their fields, they moved fast, they took great care of us, they're great with kids, and they saved my daughter's life.
