starlatk,

Is there a prize for who guesses the correct famous skeptic?

You know, I actually thought about doing that. But then I realized:

1) Such a thing (with vote tracking and prizes) would be difficult to put together in the limited time I have right now.

2) I literally don't yet have the quote/review from this person. I probably will, but I don't want to build up a big contest for something that might still get cancelled.

But, to spark your interest, here are some clues: this person has appeared on TV (cable and nationally-broadcast), has written books, and has been interviewed by most high-profile skeptical podcasts. This person is not John Stossel, though this person and John share multiple weird similarities.

That's intentionally an "astrological clue" - it's vague enough that it should apply to a lot of people. :)

You're welcome to guess. You will soon get the mental satisfaction of knowing if you're right.

Sandra,

>My daughter bought a Scooby-Doo movie recently and… they’ve gone to the dark side.

Weird. I didn't know that - I thought one of the trademarks of Scooby-Doo was that it was all a hoax, that Old Man McGillicutty was all behind it. Maybe they've simply ran the plots into the ground because they had to - continued profit from the Scooby mythos at the expense of the original theme.

After all, if you've seen one "cranky geezer played by a celebrity voice who's faking that his broken-down movie studio is haunted to keep people out so bad guys can use the film storage room to tunnel through to the bank next store and get away with a perfect though overly complex crime", then you've seen them all.

Big congratulations, Andy. I'm glad someone is writing fun skeptical kids stuff. My daughter bought a Scooby-Doo movie recently and... they've gone to the dark side. It had goblins, fairies, magic, and talking pumpkins AND they were all real! No skeptical denouement at the end, no masks, no meddling-kids speeches. What a disappointment, like hearing Encyclopedia Brown grew up to be a chiropractor.
